TRUST ME

A meditation to rediscover trust. By Jill Lawson

Believing in something or someone we hope will be reliable or truthful is called trust. To trust is to put all faith in a circumstance, action, or ability to render an expected outcome. We trust our employees to get to work on time. We trust our parents to remember our birthday. We trust our husbands or wives to be faithful. What happens when we’ve been betrayed or lied to? It becomes difficult to trust again. 

If your faith has been compromised, the following meditation will help you regain the trust you lost.

It is likely you are angry as a result of broken trust. You must attend to your anger first for this meditation to be successful. Do what is necessary to let go of your tension and tightness associated with getting burned. Whether it is a brisk walk around the block, or some yogic breathing, take special care to dissipate your anger.

Do it now
When you are ready, come to a comfortable seated position. After taking several deep breaths, silently repeat the following mantra: “I trust in this process.” Let these words vibrate deep within your being. Fill every cell, fill the spaces between every cell, fill your heart and mind with this mantra until you believe it to be true
.

Now, rather than putting your focus on the person or situation you mistrust, bring your attention to the process of trusting yourself. Do you trust yourself to heal? Do you trust yourself to forgive? Do you trust yourself to learn from the experience in mind? We know forgiveness isn’t for the other person; it is for ourselves. It is the same with trust. In order to regain trust, we must first trust ourselves.   

Believe you cannot be harmed, changed, or unloved no matter the consequences. Perhaps your heart aches, or your rage soars. These feelings are temporary and do not touch your spirit. At your core, you are a true, reliable, and perfectly able human being. You are and have everything you need to overcome any situation. Trust me.

This meditation is not to deny effort and accountability. You must do the work necessary for survival, however, trusting yourself empowers the process. When you feel the seams of broken trust mending, the next big step is to trust the universe. Putting your faith in something so mysterious and grand can be daunting, yet hugely rewarding. Can you do it? I trust you can!
