Leah Miles, a yoga teacher based in Bridport, Dorset has been named Yoga Teacher of the Year at the National Corporate Livewire Prestige Awards 2025, in recognition of her unique, environmentally-conscious teaching style that blends traditional yoga philosophy with a deep respect for nature and seasonal living. The judges were particularly impressed by her commitment to aligning yoga practice with the rhythms of the natural world, the quality of her offerings and the impact she is making on her community and environment, both during the sessions and beyond the mat.
Her sessions are primarily held outdoors – on local beaches and in natural spaces – and are thoughtfully adapted considering lunar cycles, weather patterns, and the shifting seasons, as well as to the needs of the students present. This nature and student-led approach reflects the very essence of yoga: union – not just within the self, but with each other and the planet we share.
“Yoga IS connection – to our bodies, each other, and the Earth,” said Miles. “By practicing in nature, we are reminded that we are not separate from it. We move with the seasons, our practice adapts to the constant changes brought about by the varying levels of sunlight,
the lay of the land and the cycles of the moon. In doing so, we reclaim a deeper sense of balance and belonging.”
Beyond the mat, Miles incorporates beach cleans into her sessions, offering students the chance to give back to the environments that hold and inspire their practice. This simple act of stewardship fosters mindfulness, gratitude, and a greater sense of purpose – all of which contribute to improved mental and emotional wellbeing.
Many of her students report a profound shift in how they relate to themselves and the world around them. The outdoor sessions, often described as “grounding” and “transformational,” allow participants to breathe more deeply, slow down and reconnect in a way that studio settings often can't replicate.
The Yoga Teacher of the Year award honours professionals who embody the spirit of yoga in everyday life. In a field of remarkable nominees, Miles stood out for her innovative integration of sustainability, community and spiritual practice – helping others not only feel well, but live more consciously and compassionately.
