Yoga For All - Accessible Yoga: Special Report

There is a yoga out there to meet you wherever you are. Whatever your situation, condition, limitations (real or imagined), or levels of self-belief, accessible yoga opens up this transformational practice to everyone

Making yoga accessible to all is one of the greatest aspects of this ancient practice. By using adapted poses, or asanas, designed to be suitable for people who are unable to follow a standard yoga class, the practice really is open to everyone.

Whether you think you can or can’t…in yoga, you can! It is one of those rare activities that truly welcomes everyone, no matter your age, shape, or ability. The magic lies in its flexibility, both literally and figuratively. Yoga isn’t about hitting impossible poses or competing with anyone; it’s about tuning in to your own body and moving in ways that feel good for you.

Older adults can enjoy gentle flows that focus on mobility, balance, and joint health. People with limited mobility or disabilities can still join the fun with chair yoga or supportive props like blocks, straps and cushions. Essentially, if you can breathe, you can do yoga — sometimes with a wiggle, sometimes with a wiggle plus a chair, and sometimes just lying on the floor enjoying a good stretch.

Remember, yoga is also a mental workout, it’s not just throwing shapes. It teaches you to slow down, breathe deeply and let go of stress, which is a benefit all can enjoy. There’s no need to ‘win’ or compare yourself to anyone else. Each session is about your personal journey, even if that means simply taking a few deep breaths to relax. Yoga will meet you there. So roll out your mat (or chair, or couch!) and get started: yoga isn’t about perfect poses, it’s about enjoying the ride.
