Monday Night Yin Club
Finding stillness together... every Monday night
When the world shut down in 2020, many yoga teachers scrambled to recreate something — anything — online. For Liverpool-based yoga and meditation teacher Carliann Langley, the intention was simple: to offer people a place to pause.
What emerged from that intention is now one of the UK’s most popular and long-lasting live online yin yoga classes: Monday Night Yin Club, a weekly sanctuary of stillness that has quietly transformed hundreds of lives.
“I had no technical background, no investment, and I’d never even used Zoom,” Langley tells OM. “I just knew people needed support.”
A practice born in uncertain times, Monday Night Yin Club launched during lockdown as a live online class every Monday at 8pm. What started as a small offering quickly grew through word of mouth, reaching peak attendances of 80 participants and continuing, more than five years later, with a loyal weekly community of between 30-50 members.
WHY YIN, WHY NOW?
With over 12 years’ teaching experience, Langley specialises in yin yoga and meditation, practices that feel increasingly essential in today’s fast-paced world. “Yin invites us to slow down, soften, and listen,” she says. “It’s not about performance or pushing. It’s about creating space — physically, mentally, emotionally.”
Through long-held postures, breathwork, meditation and gentle philosophy, yin yoga supports the nervous system, releases deep tension, and cultivates resilience and acceptance. No pressure, no strain, just a calming hour to reset, refocus and relax. Members of the club consistently report improved sleep, reduced anxiety and a greater sense of calm that carries into the rest of their week.
And its effects mean that it has become more than just an online class for the group. Despite being online, Monday Night Yin Club is repeatedly described as deeply personal and inclusive. Members practice from living rooms, bedrooms, and sometimes in pyjamas, children or pets occasionally joining in, and no expectation to be anything other than show up as you are.
Langley’s own calm, knowledgeable presence is frequently highlighted, particularly her emphasis on choice, safety and self-trust. For many members, the class has become a lifeline during challenging periods, supporting mental and emotional wellbeing.
A conistent anchor, what sets Monday Night Yin Club apart is its reliability, says Langley— same night, same time, every week. “It becomes part of people’s lives,” she says. “That consistency builds trust — and community.”
So, what’s next for Monday Night Yin Club? Having built the club independently, Langley is now looking towards its next chapter. “I know the impact this community has,” she says. “My goal is to keep showing up with the simple intention to teach from the heart.”
She adds: “With its strong foundations, loyal membership and powerful testimonials, Monday Night Yin Club stands as a reminder that sometimes the most meaningful growth begins with slowing down.”
