3 Reasons To Sign Your Kiddo(s) Up For Yoga in 2026
If you and your kiddo(s) are looking for something new in 2026, kids yoga might be what you've been waiting for.

Kids Yoga. One of my FAVORITE classes to teach. And, I teach a variety of classes: Vinyasa, Chair, Hatha and Pilates.
I am the mom of one (age eight) and work in elementary special education, so I clearly love kids. But there is something magical about seeing a child roll out a yoga mat, getting ready for a mindful, yet playful practice.
So, why should you sign your kiddo(s) up for yoga next year?
- An alternative to sports - My son has tried every sport (soccer, basketball, baseball, etc.) and it is very clear that he will not be in the NBA or MLB. During COVID, I signed up for Peloton and would practice yoga with my kiddo. He was little, but it would keep his attention for ten minutes (WOW!). During the 15 minutes of movement, we focus on the breath, making the yoga poses fun with silly names (Halloween cat, peeing dog, slithering cobra), ending with a dance party. (KPop Demon Hunters, anyone?) Just like an organized sport, kids will get similar cardio benefits, without the competitive nature.
- Psychological benefits - Yoga, in general, offers numerous benefits, but let's look at it from a child's perspective. Whether in daycare or school (public/private or homeschool), their minds are engaged and overstimulated for most of the day. Yoga allows the mind and body to settle and self-regulate. After the physical yoga practice, engaging in an art/craft improves fine motor skills and concentration.
- New faces - A yoga studio that offers a kids class is a great place to meet new caretakers and their kiddos. I love hearing stories from the families that attend kids yoga. Oftentimes, caretakers will stay in the studio and after class, we'll chat about common interests (local family events, family-friendly restaurants) and I have even convinced moms to take adult classes.
If you and your kiddo(s) are looking for something new in 2026, kids yoga might be what you've been waiting for.
