Stories from around the weird and wonderful world of yoga
CANADA: Lululemon Gives
Lululemon has announced the launch of Lululemon Gives, a new global impact initiative and evolution of the company’s Centre for Social Impact. The programme will focus on two key pillars – movement and mindfulness – and is dedicated to equipping 20 million people across the globe by 2030 with the resources needed to improve their mental health and wellbeing through strategic partnerships, grants, and community-led projects. The yoga pants corporation is expected to make $11 billion in total revenues in 2025.
USA: Books Behind Bars
Prison Yoga Project, a nonprofit sharing yoga with incarcerated individuals, has announced the release of its first-ever graphic novel, This Time I Choose, designed to reach younger people across literacy levels. “Stories have the power to transform the way we see ourselves and one another,” said Elizabeth R. Koch of Unlikely Collaborators, which helped fund the book. “This Time I Choose embodies that belief, offering incarcerated youth an engaging and accessible path to self-awareness…[and] the potential to spark real change.”
FRANCE: Golden Girl
The quick answer to ageing well? Yoga! In the village of Léré, in France’s Loire region, 102-year-old yoga teacher Charlotte Chopin is still bending and stretching to keep active in her centenary years. “Serenity” is the main quality yoga has brought to her life, she told an interviewee from The New York Times. She also cited strong social connections with friends, family and the community. And good news for any ‘mature’ adults out there who still haven’t yet rolled out the mat: the legendary Ms Chopin didn’t even try yoga until she was 50!
INDIA: Flow with the Ganges
