Living Life In Lunar Time

Follow the 13 moons, not the 12 months with Moon Phase Studios. By Hayley Jones

Long before time was sliced into a rigid calendar and digital reminders, humans moved in step with the moon. Our bodies, crops and celebrations were all anchored to its steady rhythm. Today, most of us organise our lives by the Gregorian calendar — efficient, yes, but in doing so, have we lost something by no longer following lunar time?

For millennia, the moon has been a silent guide to life on earth. Ocean tides rise and fall under its pull, migratory birds navigate by its glow and nocturnal animals synchronise their behaviour to its light. Ancient civilisations tracked its cycles to determine planting and harvesting times with many farmers still following lunar calendars today.

Most of us feel drawn to the moon in a quiet, instinctive way that isn’t fully understood. Menstrual cycles can mirror her waxing and waning, and for those without a menstrual cycle, the lunar rhythm can offer a natural pace to follow in its place.

Indigenous cultures worldwide have long named and revered each full moon, recognising its influence on hunting, gathering and survival. By observing these practices, we step into an ancient rhythm — one that invites us to live with greater intention, balance and harmony. The moon has guided life for eons; when we follow its cycles, we reconnect with a wisdom far older than any modern calendar.

At Moon Phase Studios, we want to honour the moon and her cycles in their full integrity by creating a journal that truly reflects earth’s original timekeeper — the moon herself.

We believe the approach to achieving goals should shift according to where we are in the cycle and the season we’re in. Frustrated by planners that glorify endless productivity, we created a journal that teaches when to advance — and when to pause.

Across 13 lunar cycles, the 13 Moon Journal invites the user to follow the natural rise and fall of energy: the deep rest of the dark moon, the first spark of the waxing crescent, the illumination and energy of the full moon. The intention is to attune to these rhythms in order to reach ambitions, whilst reducing burnout.

For those who can feel overstimulated by modern life or unconvinced by planners that expect constant output, this journal offers something different: a structure that honours rest just as much as action.

The 13 Moon Journal is an invitation to remember that you are nature — not separate from it — and to let the Moon guide you home to that truth.
