Hot yoga v regular yoga
Namaste in or just stay near the fan? Where inner peace meets outer sweat! By Sarah Highfield

In the world of downward dogs and sun salutations, two yoga styles can often divide yogis: hot yoga and regular yoga. Each has its own vibes, pros, and cons, making it a personal choice that is all about finding the perfect blend for your mind, body, and energy. Hot yoga, the Sahara of the studio world, turns up the heat — quite literally. Imagine a room that feels more like a tropical sauna than a temperate sanctuary. The pros? You will sweat lots, which is believed to aid the detoxification of your body. Your muscles will loosen up, your joints will become as flexible as a pretzel, and you might even discover that meditation can co-exist with a mini cardio session.
On the flip side, the cons could leave you reaching for an extra large towel. The heat might make you wonder what the heck you are doing, and the roasting temperatures could turn even the most graceful yogi into a clumsy puddle of sweat.
Regular yoga, in contrast, is like a gentle breeze on a cool autumn day. It provides the same mindfulness and stretching benefits, but without the sauna-like setting. The controlled environment means you are less likely to resemble a thawing ice sculpture, and it is perfect for anyone who wants to hold a pose without melting on
the spot. However, some might argue that without the heat, you do not get the added bonus of a detoxifying sweat session. And let’s be honest- no pain (read - ‘sweat’), no gain, right?
So which style should you pursue on your yogic journey? The answer, of course, lies in your personal preference. If you crave the added challenge of heat and think that extra perspiration might be the secret ingredient to achieving enlightenment (or at least a deeper stretch), hot yoga might be for you. Though, if you prefer a more measured pace that allows you to focus on breathing and balance without the fear of sliding across the room, regular yoga could be your ideal match (I must admit, I am firmly in this camp).
At the end of the day, there is no one-size-fits-all answer in the yoga universe: whether you choose hot yoga or regular yoga, the real winner is your wellbeing. So, roll out your mat, find your zen, and enjoy the journey, one pose at a time!
