Get yoga smart

Fitness enthusiasts are moving away from long, high-intensity sessions to shorter, smarter, more personalised routines, according to research by Tonal (tonal.com). Its 2025 State of Strength Report highlights several key shifts shaping the next era of fitness— including more mobility training, meditation, as well as shorter, more manageable workouts.

Shorter sessions beat longer workouts

The ‘no pain, no gain’ mindset is fading, the research notes. More than half of Tonal’s members now train for 31 to 45 minutes instead of 45 to 60 minutes. Moreover, 90% say they’ve built more strength in less time. For those who previously cited time constraints, the shift is dramatic: 70% now train three to five times per week and only 19% work out daily.

Hybrid training is now the default

Strength is still the number one mode on Tonal, but members are blending modalities for smarter workouts, with women driving the shift. Since 2021 they are doing three times more Pilates and at least twice more mobility work and meditation. More men are increasing their mobility work as well.

Strength & power: a strategy for longevity

Strength is no longer just about looks, it’s about independence, mobility and lasting energy. Some 80% of Tonal’s members report training to age better. More than 75% of members over 40 say they feel more physically capable since starting on Tonal. Older members are also leading from the front with Boomers averaging 11 workouts per month, 37% more than Gen Z.
