Find supreme wisdom with the power of your third eye chakra

In the sixth part of a seven-part series, Jenny Baker leads an exploration of the body’s subtle spinning energy wheels, or chakras

Unleash your wisdom within by balancing your third eye, or ‘Ajna’ chakra. The Sanskrit name for this source of energy translates to mean ‘perceiving’, which adequately corresponds to this chakra as it is responsible for the ways we perceive our surroundings. Open your world to a stronger connection with the heart and soul and access the inner guidance that lies deep within.

The Third Eye Chakra

This chakra, located in between your brows, gives you the ability to expand your mind to deeper understandings and higher intuitions. Here are some key gifts that you can benefit from by balancing your third eye chakra:

• Self-Reflection: This gives you the ability to self-examine and selfreflect to see the world more clearly and better understand it.

• Vision: This chakra is another visionary outlet, hence the name ‘third eye’. It serves as a link between the inner workings of your mind and the outside world.

• Logic: With this source of energy, you can combine your creativity with logical thinking, heightening your sense of reflection and wisdom.

Ways to Align Your Chakra

Get Enough Sleep: Sleep is vitally important for balancing the third eye chakra since it taps into your consciousness. Make sure that you’re getting somewhere between seven to eight hours of sleep a night to fuel your mind. The hours of 1–4am are especially critical as it is believed by the ancients that these hours allow us to connect to higher powers.

If you have trouble sleeping, try reading a book before bed. Limit your screen time, and step away from technology for the two hours prior to falling asleep.

Incorporate Purple into Your Day: A great way to balance your chakra is to get in touch with the Ajna chakra’s colour, purple. Surround yourself with clothing, decorations and candles that have purple hues. Include purple foods into your daily diet such as red onion, cabbage, blueberries, raisins and aubergine to help you tap into the energy of this chakra.

Yoga for Greater Wisdom

One of the best ways to benefit from the third eye chakra’s energy is through yoga. Here are some poses to try in your home practice.

Downward Dog: Start on your hands and knees. Your knees should be directly under your hips and your hands should reside slightly above your shoulders. Spread your fingers wide, pressing firmly through your palms. Take an exhale and lift your knees off of the floor. Keep your knees slightly bent as you lift your heels away from the floor. Lift your sitting bones up towards the sky. While you exhale, push your thighs back and stretch your heels down towards the floor or on the floor if you can. Straighten your knees without locking them. Keep your outer arms firm while continuing to press your fingers into the floor. Lift your inner arms from the wrists to your shoulders. Your shoulder blades should be firm against your back and your head between your upper arms.

Humble Warrior: From Downward Dog, move your right foot forward and turn the back heel down. Take a deep breath in to come up to Warrior I. Then interlace your fingers behind your back. Inhale and then exhale to bring your right shoulder to the inside of your right knee and draw your palms above your head.

Use these tips to unleash your inner wisdom.
