Busy Schedule? Maintain your yoga practice with these top tips

WithU’s resident yoga coach, Danielle Wills, shares her favourite ways to incorporate yoga into your daily routine…no matter how busy life gets!

Reading time: 3 minutes

We’ve all been there: when life gets busy, working out can easily fall to the bottom of the priority list. But it’s so important to make time for regular practice, even if you only have five minutes available. If that sounds familiar, keep reading! Here are some of my favourite ways to incorporate yoga into a daily routine:

It’s not all or nothing
Your flows don’t need to last for hours to be effective. Who has that kind of time, anyway? Small, bite-size chunks of time can work wonders for both your body and your mind. These flows are a sort of ‘vitamin shot’ and an opportunity for your body and your mind to catch up with each other.

Get it done early
Set yourself up for success by getting a flow in before your day has fully started. Think of it as cleaning the house you live in (aka, your body!). Just a few minutes of movement, breathwork, and meditation first thing in the morning can have a massive positive impact on everything else that follows.

Focus on yoga’s core principles
If you don’t feel like hitting the mat today, remember that you can take what you need from your practice. Even something as simple as practicing your breathwork, or being more present during your commute, can work wonders. These are small things, but they stack up to help you stay engaged in your life rather than disconnected from it.

Set reminders
When things are busy it’s easy to forget that you’d planned to roll out your mat at 11am between meetings. To avoid this, try setting reminders on your phone throughout the day for yoga breaks. This way, even if you’re swamped with work, you’ll always be reminded to come back up for air.

Share your journey
Lastly, make sure you share your yoga journey with the people in your life – it’ll help you to stay accountable. You’ll be more likely to stick to your word, and your friends will be able to cheer you on (or join you!) as you make progress.
