Dorathick Rajan
Fr. Dorathick Rajan, Camaldolese Benedictine monk from Tamil Nadu, integrates yoga, meditation, psychology, and healing to promote spiritual, mental, and physical well-being
Fr. Dorathick Rajan was born on February 9, 1986, in Kanyakumari, Tamil Nadu, India. He is a Camaldolese Benedictine monk. He grew up in a family with a rich tradition of practicing Siddha and Ayurveda, two ancient Indian systems of medicine. This heritage influenced his holistic approach to health and well-being, blending spiritual and physical healing practices. He integrates these ancient Indian healing systems with his deep knowledge of philosophy, psychology, theology, alternative medicines, and yoga. He has continued to teach yoga and meditation for the past 17 years. Fr. Dorathick views yoga as more than a physical discipline; he teaches it as a path to spiritual awakening and self-discovery. His approach combines traditional yoga practices like asanas (postures), pranayama (breathing techniques), and dhyana (meditation) with contemporary psychological insights to address modern stress and mental health challenges. His work focuses on fostering inner peace and unity among religions and encouraging mental, physical, and spiritual well-being. Fr. Dorathick serves as the Prior of the Saccidananda Ashram, a Benedictine Camaldolese monastery. He actively engages in fostering interreligious dialogue. Inspired by the ashram's founders, Fr. Jules Monchanin, Fr. Henri Le Saux and Fr. Bede Griffiths, Fr. Dorathick advocates for a lifestyle that balances physical health, mental well-being, and spiritual growth. He teaches that spiritual practices should be integrated into daily life for meaningful transformation.
