Situated in the small market town of Calne, Wiltshire, 11:11 Yoga Studio was founded in December 2019 by Gemma Harris, who dreamt of opening a hot yoga studio dedicated to spiritual wellness often not found outside of big cities. “Yoga has been a big part of my life since 2009,” she tells OM. “When I moved here from Birkdale, Merseyside, I really missed my local studio. It was only then I realised my dream and with much searching I found what is now our wonderful community studio. We believe in bringing everyone together and creating a warm and vibrant yoga family where everyone is welcome and feels comfortable.”

Surrounded by artisan shops and cafés, 11:11 has a wholesome, welcoming vibe. It’s a beautiful, open-plan studio, with a sophisticated temperature controlled heating system set to keep the room at 35-40 degrees (depending on the class). From prenatal yoga, OAP and advanced classes, the studio welcomes students from all backgrounds, ages, and abilities.

It also has a small shop and chill-out area, where students are encouraged to stay after class and enjoy a cup of herbal tea. Original period features run through this unique space making gazing up during a Savasana or balancing in tree pose a joyful experience.

Despite only operating for a few months before the lockdowns began, the studio has built up quite the following. “There is no doubt the pandemic was not part of our vision when we opened our doors in January 2020 — and what a journey we’ve had! It is always my belief to turn a negative into a positive and create some good from perceived difficult situations,” says Harris.

Over the last few months, she has expanded the 11:11 studio team, become an ambassador and wholesaler to the sustainable clothing range, Wolven, as well as Liforme mats, and, in June, she will be hosting her first retreat in Tuscany, Italy.
